Abstract submission

Good news: The 2024 Program Committee is accepting poster abstracts until January 31!

The deadline to be considered for a flash talk is January 15, however. You must be a member of S4SN to submit an abstract. Renew your membership here.

One unique attribute of our society is that it brings together researchers with diverse perspectives, with an emphasis on integrating animal and human research. We are committed to maintaining a balance of work on humans and non-human animals. We encourage you to submit an exciting poster proposal on either social animal and human research. Posters will be selected based on research excellence, speaker diversity, timeliness, and their fit into the overall program.
In addition to traditional research findings, we also welcome abstracts reporting:

  • Preregistrations – a benefit of presenting a preregistration poster is to elicit feedback on your study design before data collection

  • Open research tools – resources such as methods, code or stimulus sets that have been or will be made available to social neuroscientists

There are awards for outstanding research posters, as well as for posters using open and reproducible science practices.

After submitting your abstract, the S4SN program committee will review your submission. Incomplete abstracts or submissions will be rejected after review. (The vast majority of abstracts, however, are of appropriate quality, so you don’t need to wait for acceptance to begin preparing for the meeting.)

The abstract submission deadline is January 31, 2024 (11:59PM latest time zone on earth).

Please check that the domain @s4sn.org is identified as not spam in your email program, and check your spam folder for missing correspondence. If you have not received a notification by Friday, February 9, please feel free to contact us at submissions@s4sn.org.

Guidelines

Content

Abstracts are handled by volunteers within the society. Please follow the guidelines below to make their jobs easier!

The Presenting Author (1st author) is required to register to attend the S4SN 2024 Annual Meeting.

The Presenting Author is responsible for adherence to these guidelines and for the merit of the presentation.

It is acceptable to submit an abstract that has also been submitted to SfN or to S4SN 2023.

All abstracts must have an element of “Social” as well as “Neuroscience.” If the data are limited to social measures, for example, the findings should nevertheless be placed in the context of neuroscience.

Your abstract must contain the specific goals of the study, the methods used, a summary of the results, and a conclusion. It is not satisfactory to say, “The results will be discussed.”

The abstract title should clearly define the work discussed.

Abstract Format

Abbreviations (of compounds, for example) must be spelled out in full at the first use. Do not use abbreviations in the title.

The abstract must be in one paragraph and cannot contain more than 2000 characters (~250 words). This limit does not include the title, author or affiliation information.

Do not add formatting to your abstract. Italics, bold, tabs and extra spaces are not permitted and will not appear in the final program.

Please do not enter the abstract title, author names, or affiliations in all uppercase or all lowercase letters. Sentence capitalization or title capitalization should be used for entering your abstract title.

Poster Format

The poster board size is 85cm (width) x 205cm (height). Portrait, not landscape!
